Huntsville ISD Families, HISD continues to monitor weather conditions for our immediate area and will do so throughout the night and early morning. At this time, we anticipate having school as NORMAL tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, 2024. In the event that we must delay or cancel school due to weather, we will send a districtwide notification to families by 5:30 AM; otherwise, expect regular operations. Thank you, Huntsville ISD

HISD Schools CLOSED Tuesday, January 16 Due to Inclement Weather Huntsville ISD Families, HISD has been monitoring the inclement weather forecasts for our immediate area. A low of 19* is predicted tonight with patchy ice on the roads that will not thaw by morning. Dangerous wind chill of 6* is expected when our students would be waiting for morning bus routes. Due to these sub freezing temperatures and potential for icy/hazardous road conditions, we have decided to CLOSE school tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, 2024. All extracurricular activities are also canceled. Roads are expected to clear tomorrow afternoon, so at this point we plan to return to normal operations on Wednesday. We will continue to monitor the conditions and if a change is necessary we will communicate to families as soon as a decision can be made. All updates will also be sent to parents using the mass notification system as well as posted on the district website (www.huntsville-isd.org) and social media pages. Students are encouraged to stay indoors due to extreme temperatures. It is unusual for the Huntsville/Walker County community to experience temperatures this cold. Hypothermia can be a great concern if you are exposed to extreme cold. Calendar Reminder: All HISD Campuses & Facilities will be CLOSED on Monday, January 15, 2024, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday. Parents, please be sure you have made alternative arrangements for any childcare needed as there will be no school on Monday.

Huntsville ISD would like to make you aware of a Criminal Justice Program Student Competition taking place on the campus of Huntsville High School on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Please do NOT be alarmed by the increased presence of law enforcement and emergency services personnel from various agencies partnering with the HHS CJ Program to provide expertise and support for the competition. You may observe numerous vehicles entering/exiting the campus, hear sirens or see their lights flashing all throughout the day's event.

Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program Huntsville High School Principal, Paul M. Trevino, announced today that Rosalie G. Jones has been named a Commended Student in the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, will be presented by the Principal to this talented Senior. About 34,000 Commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). "Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students present a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them at they continue their pursuit of academic success."

All Huntsville ISD Campuses & Facilities will be CLOSED for the WINTER BREAK from Thursday, December 21 through Wednesday, January 3 in observation of the Christmas & New Year's holidays. HISD Employees will return to work on Thursday, January 4th & HISD Students will return to school for the second semester on Monday, January 8. Parents, please be sure that you have made alternative arrangements for any childcare needed during the closure. SAVE THE DATE - EARLY RELEASE DAY ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 20: All Huntsville ISD campuses will have EARLY RELEASE @ 1:00 PM for students on Wednesday, December 20 for the winter holiday break. *HHS students will follow their final exam schedule. Afternoon Bus Routes will have earlier drop off times than normal. Parents should make alternative arrangements for any after school care, if needed.

Dear Parents/Guardians, Huntsville ISD will have an Early Release Day this Friday, December 1, 2023, with all campuses dismissing early at 2:30 PM.  This new early release time will hopefully allow our Hornet Nation football fans and families to attend the Hornet playoff game scheduled for that evening in Houston.  HISD Transportation will also run afternoon bus routes earlier than normal times.  Parents should make any arrangements necessary to accommodate this early dismissal time including arranging for after school care, if needed.  The Huntsville Hornet Varsity Football team won the Regional 3 Semifinal playoff game on Friday, November 24, 2023, against Richmond Randle to advance to the fourth round of the playoffs!  The Regional Quarterfinal Championship game between the Huntsville Hornets and the Port Neches-Groves Indians will be played this Friday, December 1, 2023, at 7:00 PM at the NRG Stadium in Houston, TX.  Huntsville ISD encourages all citizens to join us to pack the stands at NRG to cheer on our hometown Hornets!  The following preliminary game day information is being shared now with our Huntsville Hornet fans.  Additional details regarding stadium parking and entry, playoff shirt sales, as well as the online ticket purchasing will be shared on hornetnation.org and social media as it becomes available. TICKETS PRICES: All tickets are General Admission.  Pre-sale ticket prices are Students $7 (with code) and Adults $13 (with code). All tickets at the gate will be $16.  Children 2 and older will need a ticket.  FAN PARKING & STADIUM ENTRY: NRG Park is cashless.  There will be a $20 Parking fee per space.  The Hornets will be the VISITING team.

HISD GT Referral Window OPEN through November 17, 2023: The HISD Gifted & Talented Program referral window is NOW OPEN for students in grades K-11. Kindergarten testing will begin in December and parents will receive notification of results by March 1, 2024. Testing for grades 1-11 will occur during the spring semester on each campus. Parents and principals will be notified of the results in June, and services for qualifying students will begin in the fall of the 2024-2025 school year. Huntsville ISD will host a Special Programs Parent Information Night on Monday, November 6th from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. at the Huntsville High School Commons. This will be a Come and Go event! Please park in the back parking lot area and use the rear doors to the Commons. Come learn about our Bilingual, ESL, Dyslexia, 504 and Special Education programs in Huntsville ISD. Specific program information, child find information and resources for student supports will be shared. All parents and students of HISD and the surrounding community are welcome.

SHUTTLE: We will run a courtesy bus shuttle BEFORE and AFTER TONIGHT'S Hornet Varsity home football game from HISD Transportation on MLK. The shuttle will run between Transportation and the Home Stadium Entrance. If you are interested in using the shuttle, park in the Transportation lot.
