8/24/2023 @ 9 PM - HISD UPDATE:
Dear Huntsville ISD Parents and Guardians:
We wanted to provide you with additional information about the incident that took place today at Huntsville High School. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and we appreciate your understanding and support throughout this situation.
Earlier today, the Huntsville Police Department received information from a 24-hour suicide hotline about a bomb threat targeting Huntsville High School. We immediately activated our emergency protocols and began the campus evacuation process in coordination with law enforcement. We'd like to address some key points that have come to light since our initial communication:
Immediate Response: The Huntsville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies swiftly informed campus administration about the threat, leading to the prompt initiation of evacuation procedures.
Misinformation on Social Media: Unfortunately, some misinformation surfaced on social media during the evacuation. Fictitious posts claiming a shooting had occurred or due to hearing loud sounds caused some students to run, which is not in line with our safety protocols.
Thorough Campus Sweep: Law enforcement completed a comprehensive search of the campus and confirmed that there was no actual bomb or firearm on the premises. The incident appears to have been triggered by a hoax and exacerbated by false statements and rumors on social media.
Investigation: The Huntsville Police Department is actively investigating the source of the threat. If you have any information that could assist in this investigation, please report it to the appropriate authorities.
Support for Students: We understand that this incident has been distressing for our students. To provide support, counselors will be available at the school to speak with students tomorrow morning. We want to ensure that our students have the opportunity to process their feelings and concerns.
Continual Improvement: We are committed to collaborating closely with local law enforcement agencies to enhance our safety protocols and communication strategies.
Our goal is to continuously improve our response plans for situations like this.
We want to express our gratitude for your cooperation and understanding during this challenging time. Your trust in us is invaluable as we work together to maintain a safe and secure environment for our school community.
We will keep you updated as any new information becomes available. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Huntville ISD

At approximately 1:20 pm today, Huntsville High School Administration received notification from the Huntsville Police Department that there was a bomb threat made against the campus. Following our safety protocols, the campus was Evacuated and all students and staff were transported by school bus to the Sam Houston State University Coliseum where a reunification site had been established. Per law enforcement recommendation, Huntsville Elementary, Scott Johnson Elementary and the Hawkins Administration Building were put on SECURE status as a precaution. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the high school and assisted with the security and sweeping of the building. Once it was determined that there was no threat, the campus was given the All Clear to return to campus at approximately 4:15 pm. All Huntsville High School and Mance Park Middle School after school activities and extracurriculars including ball games scheduled for the day were canceled. The safety of our students and staff will always be our top priority at ALL campuses. We appreciate the quick implementation of campus safety protocols and actions by our staff, campus administrators and law enforcement throughout today’s event.

Huntsville ISD Parents who have set up an account in the new Skyward Family Access Center Portal can access their child's STAAR and/or TELPAS scores there. This link is to a video for directions on how to accessing the scores.

HISD Names New Principal for Samuel W. Houston Elementary
On the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Scott Sheppard, the Huntsville ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hiring of Mr. Eric Burns as the new Principal of Samuel W. Houston Elementary.
Mr. Burns is a native of Huntsville who grew up here and graduated from Huntsville High School in 2002. As a child he was a student at Samuel W. Houston Elementary, the very campus he will now lead. Following high school, he briefly served the District as an Instructional Assistant and a Substitute Teacher.
Mr. Burns is a Hornet at heart and happy to return home following a very impressive 15-year career in Willis ISD. For the past 7 years, he has been serving as an elementary campus principal. Prior to that he was an assistant principal and a classroom teacher. While in Willis, he was named Teacher of the Year at C.C. Hardy Elementary and then at that same school he was later named Principal of the Year in 2020. That campus is now a designated Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) campus. Mr. Burns’ extensive professional experience along with his expertise as a national consultant for Professional Learning Communities should prove to be extremely beneficial in his new administrative leadership role in Huntsville ISD.
During his formal introduction to the Board, Mr. Burns shared, “I'm excited to be back here to serve you all; to serve the community; and most importantly to serve our students.” Mr. Burns has already assumed his new position and hit the ground running. He is thankful to be here and ready for the new school year.
