Calling all little dancers!!! The Grenadier Guard Drill Team's Little GG Dance Clinic is coming up! This clinic is intended for children aged 4 years old to 5th Grade. The clinic will be held in the HHS Paul Bohan Gym on Saturday, September 9 from 9 am to 12 noon. Family showoff will be at noon. The cost is $45 Pre-registration & $50 at the door the Day-of the Clinic. The fee will include a clinic T-Shirt, light snack, and a craft. The Lil GGs will learn Pregame & Stand Routines to prepare for their performance with the big Grenadier Guard on Game Night, Friday, September 15th at 7:30! Does your kiddo want to be a future HHS cheerleader? The HHS Cheer Program invites children in grades Kindergarten-6th to register to participate in our Little Stingers Clinic! Participants will spend the clinic learning cheerleading skills and a routine to perform at a varsity football game and at our UIL State Show-Off this year! Sarah Muñoz 2023 Region 6 School Support Person of the Year! You CAN always go back home again! Mrs. Sarah Muñoz is a recent HISD retiree who has been a true treasure to our district, as she served our students, staff, teachers and community for 30 years here at Huntsville ISD! (27 of those years were spent serving the campus of Samuel Walker Houston Elementary School!!) During our 2023 End of the Year staff awards program, Mrs. Munoz was named HISD’s Support Person of the Year– and we then nominated her for consideration in the regional recognition process– We are excited to share that she was named the 2023 Region 6 School Support Person of the Year! At last Thursday’s Board of Trustees Meeting, Mr. Steve Pierce from Education Service Center Region 6 joined us to surprise her with the news and make the special award presentation. Our Chief Academic Officer Marcus Forney was able to share the critical importance of Childhood Literacy...which is exactly what ATime2Read's mission and work is all about- connecting tutors that have one hour a week - they can mentor two students! 8/24/2023 @ 9 PM - HISD UPDATE: Dear Huntsville ISD Parents and Guardians: We wanted to provide you with additional information about the incident that took place today at Huntsville High School. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and we appreciate your understanding and support throughout this situation. Earlier today, the Huntsville Police Department received information from a 24-hour suicide hotline about a bomb threat targeting Huntsville High School. We immediately activated our emergency protocols and began the campus evacuation process in coordination with law enforcement. We'd like to address some key points that have come to light since our initial communication: Immediate Response: The Huntsville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies swiftly informed campus administration about the threat, leading to the prompt initiation of evacuation procedures. Misinformation on Social Media: Unfortunately, some misinformation surfaced on social media during the evacuation. Fictitious posts claiming a shooting had occurred or due to hearing loud sounds caused some students to run, which is not in line with our safety protocols. Thorough Campus Sweep: Law enforcement completed a comprehensive search of the campus and confirmed that there was no actual bomb or firearm on the premises. The incident appears to have been triggered by a hoax and exacerbated by false statements and rumors on social media. Investigation: The Huntsville Police Department is actively investigating the source of the threat. If you have any information that could assist in this investigation, please report it to the appropriate authorities. Support for Students: We understand that this incident has been distressing for our students. To provide support, counselors will be available at the school to speak with students tomorrow morning. We want to ensure that our students have the opportunity to process their feelings and concerns. Continual Improvement: We are committed to collaborating closely with local law enforcement agencies to enhance our safety protocols and communication strategies. Our goal is to continuously improve our response plans for situations like this. We want to express our gratitude for your cooperation and understanding during this challenging time. At approximately 1:20 pm today, Huntsville High School Administration received notification from the Huntsville Police Department that there was a bomb threat made against the campus.  Following our safety protocols, the campus was Evacuated and all students and staff were transported by school bus to the Sam Houston State University Coliseum where a reunification site had been established.  Per law enforcement recommendation, Huntsville Elementary, Scott Johnson Elementary and the Hawkins Administration Building were put on SECURE status as a precaution.   Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the high school and assisted with the security and sweeping of the building.  Once it was determined that there was no threat, the campus was given the All Clear to return to campus at approximately 4:15 pm.  All Huntsville High School and Mance Park Middle School after school activities and extracurriculars including ball games scheduled for the day were canceled. The safety of our students and staff will always be our top priority at ALL campuses.  We appreciate the quick implementation of campus safety protocols and actions by our staff, campus administrators and law enforcement throughout today’s event.

HHS has been given the All Clear. The HHS Administration & Staff will be on campus today between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm to let students and staff back into the building to get their belongings, keys & vehicles.

All Huntsville High School and Mance Park Middle School after school activities and extracurriculars including football games scheduled for today have been cancelled.

HHS Students and Staff have been evacuated to Sam Houston State University Coliseum located at 1964 Bobby K Marks Drive. If you are a parent of a car rider you can pick up your student from the coliseum at regular school dismissal time. Please follow all directions and signs. Be sure you have your ID/Drivers License with you to receive your student. All afternoon bus riders will be transported back to the Transportation Department at regular dismissal time to get on their homebound buses and delivered home. We do not know when the HHS parking lot will reopen to students who drove to school, so those students may also be picked up at the coliseum at regular dismissal time. Thank you very much.

So you may have heard that our Huntsville High School Lady Hornet Volleyball Team hosted a big tournament this weekend, with 16 teams competing (5 of which spent the weekend at local hotels)... …but we were intrigued to find the teams getting hyped up and having fun (or, you could say working on team building?!) by dancing together– these are line dances that you may have heard of, and some that are new to you, but the energy was high, the music pumping and the dance open to all…including some of their littlest fans and the Huntsville High School Photojournalism classes. And yes, they are dancing in a back hallway of the gym- nature finds a way!! #HornetProud #BuildingChampions #VolleyballLife

Widely publicized supply chain issues in the construction industry, along with a complex site requiring extensive civil engineering and site work, have combined to delay the opening of the new Huntsville ISD Stadium. While we deeply regret the delay, the district and our contractors know it is much more important to deliver a top quality stadium that will stand the test of time, rather than rushing to completion. Fortunately, our long standing partnership with Sam Houston State University will allow the Hornets to compete at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium in the interim. Until further notice, all home Huntsville High School freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity football games originally scheduled at Huntsville ISD Stadium will be played at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium on the SHSU campus. This is also true for Mance Park Middle School 7th and 8th grade home games once their season begins in September. The new projected completion of Huntsville ISD Stadium is September 15th - 30th, with our goal to play at least 4 weeks of the 2023 regular season in the new stadium. We appreciate your patience as we work to build a facility our community will be proud of for generations to come. If you have already purchased season tickets, they will be valid at Bowers Stadium. Because Bowers Stadium and Huntsville ISD Stadium have different layouts and seat numbering systems, we are unable to honor specific seat assignments; however, season ticket holders will be allowed to choose the chair back seat of their choice on a first come first serve basis.
