Big Art Day is an opportunity for Texas public schools to do exactly that — go BIG on art!
When we stopped by Huntsville Elementary School, art teacher Ariann Bunker, along with her fellow Specials teachers, had transformed the gym (with a big assist from the coaches!) into a full-blown art festival.
After a brief introduction to the day, students — 5th graders during our visit — were turned loose to create for art’s sake.
They had the opportunity to work with clay, make art trading cards, head outside for chalk drawing, or contribute to a giant free-draw mural. It didn’t matter what they created, as long as they created.
Pretty awesome? We thought so.
Be sure to check out more photos from Big Art Day in the Huntsville ISD Media Gallery:

One of the fun things about a trip to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is never knowing who you might run into! We were glad to cross paths with a few of our Huntsville ISD students showing their animals, and of course we had to stop by the student art exhibit and see Huntsville ISD represented there, too!!
From livestock projects to artwork on display, we are proud of our students for sharing their talents and hard work at such a huge, iconic event!

Congratulations to the latest graduates of Hornet Success Academy, Huntsville ISD’s alternative education program, who were recognized on Thursday, February 26 at the Performing Arts Center.
The path to graduation does not look the same for every student, and for many of these graduates, it came with real challenges and obstacles. This moment reflects their perseverance, growth, and decision to keep moving forward.
We are proud of each of these students and grateful to the staff, families, and supporters who encouraged them along the way. Congratulations to the graduates!!

Our Lady Hornet Basketball Team’s season came to an end on Friday night, with a loss to Barbers Hill in the Area Playoffs. Our girls hung tough and didn’t give up, but in the end could not close the gap and lost 57-46 to a tough Barbers Hill team.
The season ended in a loss- but what a phenomenal they girls had– they played hard and tough and once again earned the Bi District crown!
Good luck and thank you to our seniors, and to our underclassmen– we’ll see you soon back here on the court!
Thanks to everybody who helped pack the stands— and hold your heads up high, ladies!

On Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, Huntsville celebrated one of our own in a big way—T’Vondre Sweat received a Key to the City and a proclamation naming it “T’Vondre Sweat Day.”

T’vondre is a Huntsville ISD graduate who rose from Hornet pride to the University of Texas, and now the NFL’s Tennessee Titans—and through it all, he’s carried himself with class, humility, and grace.
What makes us even prouder is how he continues to give back to Huntsville—including toy giveaways for the Holidays and a free youth football camp that pours right back into our kids and community.
Thank you, T’vondre, for representing Huntsville and Huntsville ISD so well!
And thank you to everyone who came out to support him—district staff, administrators, friends, and family (including so many loved ones who serve our schools every day)!
